Discussion - The Journey
When i was first given the exam paper with all the options, i was drawn to both the journey and people and possessions. However after making mind maps for both of these options as well as water, it was clear that i had thought of more shoot ideas for the Journey. I also realised that it was easier to develop my shoot ideas for the journey as i could carry out similar shoots just in different locations.
The Journey as a whole can cover such a wide variety of concepts, from actual journeys and the different transportation used, the destination once a journey has been completed, the journey of people as they age or the effects of a certain habit such as smoking on the body. As this is a short project i will not be able to carry out any shoots like that but i can do a shoot inspired by Bobby Adams in which two photographs of one person at different times are ripped down the middle and placed next to each other to show the ageing which has taken place. i like the effect this style of photography has as it is a direct contrast between young and old.
A good example of showing the destination once a journey has been completed, is the work of Ken Kaminesky. He is a lifestyle photographer who travels the world and photographs the location he visits. He captures the surroundings of the countries/towns well as he captures the different cultures, and elements of the places which make them special from other places. This is an image of a hotel in New York, i know this from the flag outside the front and the classic yellow taxis that are moving in front of the hotel. I would like to further explore the idea of showing different destinations once a journey has taken place.
This image is showing a journey that animals are taking, elephants tend to travel in herds and so this image captures the baby elephants with the adult elephants, this shows the journey of the elephants growing and the journey they are taking together. Journey can be shown through wildlife photography because it captures the different life-stages and differences in size etc. well. It can also capture the very different journey of life animals have compared to humans.
